You specific vehicle application should fit into one of the following 3 categories:
1. IN DASH FACTORY MONITOR WITH / WITHOUT TOUCHSCREEN
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Getting video on your OEM screen
Some vehicles require a video converter box to interface with the HDMI output of your device. We have several solutions available for vehicles such as VW, BMW, AUDI, Nissan.
If we can't support your vehicle with the above converter boxes, then the last option is a HDMI to A/V converter. These are available seperately and quality can vary greatly depending on monitor in. If using iOS, the Apple A/V cable can be used and no addtional conveter is required.
2. Connecting the touchscreen to control your device
If equipped with OEM touchscreen : Virtially all OEM touchscreens have acompatible 4-wire connection. Our system intercepts the touchscreen directly for the most responsive (virtually ZERO-LAG) solution. For this level of performance, the touchscreen connection needs to be accessed directly. Once you have located the touchscreen connection, simply plug in and secure the "Touchscreen Sender" then connect the 2 power connections. The kit comes with a slim extention cables that can be fed out to the front of the dash for easy connection to the main MimicsX2 module. For basic installation, no additional wires need to be connected to main module as the "switcher" will power and communicate with the main module directly.
If NOT equipped with OEM touchscreen: Since your OEM monitor is not equipped with an in-dash touchscreen, it is possible to connect a seperate toucshcreen overlay to enable touchscreen control of your devices. We have 6.5", 7" and 8" avialable. Please check the dimentions of our touchscreens for proper fitment. If none of our touchscreen match your vehicles display (e.g. BMW widescreen monitor) contact us and we should be able to source one for your vehicle.
3. Getting audio to your factory speakers
If using OEM monitor in conjuction with our converter boxes, the HDMI will be processed and directed to your factory speakers. If you use a HDMI to A/V converter, the A/V connection will have Left and Right channel audio output available to connect to your factory AUX input.
2. STANDALONE LCD + DASH KIT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Getting video on your DASH
If you vehicle does'nt have an in dash monitor, it is possible to have one using an aftermarket dash-kit that has been specifically designed to fit a touchscreen monitor/double-din head. The following two links are of a couple of suppliers that have dash kits for a wide variety of vehicles that are made to retain a "factory" look.
Scosche - Find you car under "Select Your Vehicle"
Metra - Find you car under "Vehicle Fit Guide"
Now that you have found your dash-kit, you then need to purchase the MimicsX2 + LCD kit. This kit gives you a great quality touchscreen monitor with reverse camera, dimmer option, etc. Basically this kits includes everything you need to get started. Some slight modification and technical knowledge might be required to fit the monitor to the actual dash-kit.
2. Connecting the touchscreen to control your device
Since you have one of our LCD kits, the correct adapter for the touchscreen is supplied so you dont need to wory about locating it.
3. Getting audio to your factory speakers
The LCD monitor we supply has a L/R channel line level audio output that is extracted from the digital HDMI connection. So its NOT speaker level outputs. This can then be fed into an amp or to your vehicles AUX input.
3. HEADUNIT INTEGRATION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Getting video on your Headunit
Virtually all headunits have A/V inputs, so in this case a HDMI to A/V is required (For iOS, the Apple A/V cable works fine). Please check video quality first to ensure that you are satisfied before purchasing the MimicsX2, as the video quality can vary between headunits.
2. Connecting the touchscreen to control your device
For headunit touchscreen control, it will be required to access the internal touchscreen cable and connect the "Touchscreen Sender" internally. This is a leave in device that can be left in permantly as the main module will be connected externally.
3. Getting audio to your factory speakers
Since the video and audio connection will be connected directly to your headunits AUX inputs, all audio from your device will be directed into your headunit and through you cars speakers
* NOTE :
iOS devices will require HDMI or A/V adapter cable.
Some android devices will require a MHL cable.
Authentic video cables are recommended to eliminate any video/audio issues and continued compatibility if you upgrade your device software.
FAQ:
(Based off common questions from our previous iOS/Android customers)
Q. Can I use A2DP streaming while using the MimicsX2?
A. Some devices support this fully with the MimicsX2, and some don't. Since A2DP is very demanding on your device, the audio from the HDMI connection is highly recommended for lag-free operation.
Q. I currently have a Gingabread device that works fine with the MimicsX2, if I upgrade to ICS or JellyBean can I still use my MimicsX2 with no issue.
A. The new module is awesome, it is now cross-platform meaning that it can work with all the new platforms Android/iOS.
Q. I read that I need a PC to update the fimrware in the module, but I dont have a Laptop handy to bring to my vehicle.
A. The new MimcisX2 can now be updated over a MicroSD card, so updates are a breeze.
Q. I have a Pioneer/Alpine/Keenwood/MyGiG etc headunit, will it work with the mimcisX2?
A. Most Headunits that have a 4-wire touchscreen interface will work. You will need to check if your headunit touchscreen matches our compatible touchscreen adapters.
Q. My OEM display and headunit already has a touchscreen, do I need to overlay a special on one top of it to use with the MimicsX2?
A. No, our system has been designed specifically to inteface to almost every factory OEM touchscreen.
Q. I removed my Mimics from the switcher Add-on but now my OEM touchscreen doesn't work, but when I re-connect it its fine.
A. The previous mimics required the main module to be connected to to the switcher for OEM operation, even if module is not connected to smartphone. The new version add-on can run on its own maintaining OEM operation. So its essentially a leave-in add-on.
Q. I understand that iOS requires a Jailbreak, is something similar required for my Android?
A. Android does not require any hacking/software mods to function.
Q. I like the idea of the Mimics but have no idea how to JailBreak my iOS device, can you help?
A. There is alot of information available on the web to do this, and some basic technical knowledge is required. There are some limitations also, but the benefits can be amazing. Once you Jailbreak, we can assist you with getting everything working.
Q. Can I still charge my smartphone while using the video connection for the MimicsX2?
A. All HDMI and A/V cables allow you to charge your device while in use.
